benda ya bergantung pada sever & provider bang~

kalau sever & provider tu memang da slow, kita x dpt nak buat apa2~ mau u tukar PC u g super computer pun kalau S&P ni slow, hasil nya tetap slow.

contoh nya kalau u subscribe streamyx, kalau streamyx offer 1Mbps (max), u hanya dpt maximum speed dia 1Mbps ja la~ x dpt u nak mod dia sampai 7.2Mbps.

ya la hal sebenar nya~ lagipun i pakai apple macintosh now~ da boring da pakai brgn bill gates.

ya aku tau rie.. tp torrent downloader sepatutnya dapat download dalam 60kbps.. itu kira dah laju dah la.. tp aku pun tok sik pernah nak lebih 20kbps pun.. mula2 dulu ok malah dpt sampai 100kbps tp sekarang bila aku pakai router dah slow lak..

From a personal experience, I find that not only to be true but a rip-off too, if the words of a friend — another Internet subscriber — are to be believed!

Try, for example, to download a movie. It takes days or weeks to download a complete movie. It will be faster to get a friend overseas to air-courier a VCD. In South Korea, you can download a movie in 25 minutes! That shows how far behind Malaysia is in terms of broadband internet speed. Although in Japan the speed is faster at 64 mega bits per second (mbps), Korea with 40 mbps has a far better free internet coverage.

A friend, Dr Andrew Aeria, who spent three months in South Korea said you can access the internet from anywhere in that country and it’s so fast, compared with the very slow 2 mbps in Sarawak and 4 mbps in Peninsular Malaysia. Why the discrimination?

Try going to YouTube during the day, early evenings and weekends. There’s a great deal of frustration with the frequent buffering or breaking. Your best bet is well past midnight, between 2 and 6 in the morning, when most people are asleep and traffic much less. Just what’s happening?

My IT technician friend Rajah Jong has a basically simple explanation for what’s happening: The existing capacity at the international gateways cannot handle the big traffic.

I go to Kedai Telecom in Batu Lintang to pay utility bills including phone bills, and I see people are signing up all the time for the Internet access service.

One wonders whether the Internet service providers bother to check whether they can handle the growing traffic?

When I go to the free-registration music download site aimini.net (thanks to Jong’s recommendation), I experience the occasional buffering or breaking up even with CD songs.

My laptops and my modems are all okay. I even use micro splitters to make sure there is no undue interference in the telephone line, which unfortunately is still of copper wire in my neighbourhood. When are they going to upgrade it to fibre optic?

An advice to the telcos is not to sell a service or product that cannot meet subscribers’ expectation or bases on promises they cannot fulfil.

I saw this letter from Dr Andrew Aeria, a senior academician, that was published in the Letters Column of the online news portal Malaysiakini on Jan 12.

“Last week, I purchased a telco’s D98 broadband wireless plan from an agent here in Kuching. The agent swore that this was the best available broadband system (USB Dongle modem costing RM450 with an ‘attractive unlimited usage’ monthly payment plan of RM98; first month free) in the country.

Seeing that this was the general view held by many of my Internet-addicted and business friends, I decided to purchase the broadband.

I paid the agent cash RM478 (after getting a discount) and he told me that the system would be activated within an hour, and that I could surf away to my heart’s content.

Imagine my irritation when about 12 hours later, on my attempts to install the Broadband system and use the Internet, I discovered that the system did not work. I called the agent who only expressed surprise that the system had not been activated.

He then turned off his mobile phone and refused to answer any of my subsequent calls. On Wednesday, fully 24 hours after purchasing the system, I called the telco’s 1-300-111-000 help line. Only then was my system activated by the Customer Help Line Assistant.

On Thursday, to my deep consternation, when I had some urgent work commitments to deliver, I discovered that the Broadband is not really broad despite the telco’s claims. Instead, I discover that I am unable to even attach a simple Word File to my e-mail since according to the Help Line Assistant, ‘the telco system is busy and experiencing heavy traffic’.

The solution suggested by the Customer Help Line Assistant? ‘Log out and try logging in later’! Pray tell, what’s the use of having broadband if the telco in question does not install sufficiently large bandwidth to cater for heavy traffic?

Instead, what is now touted as the telco’s Broadband is, in fact, a slick sales gimmick whereby the telco sells a ‘broadband service’ at an expensive price but neglects to provide sufficient bandwidth connectivity.

Thus, another Malaysia Boleh rip off, right?

And where is the relevant regulatory body in Malaysia in all this? What are they doing to discipline the telco to ensure they provide world-class service? Or are they just playing along with the telco, pretending that this ongoing rip off is not happening?

I bought this telco broadband system since I need a fast and reliable Internet connection to undertake important work while on the move. My inability to even upload a simple Word File due to ‘heavy traffic’ has since cost me dearly in terms of my credibility in delivering my work commitments.

Don’t even talk about lost income. But hey, does the telco bother? After all, they already took my money, right?

In Korea, which has the best (free) broadband connectivity in the world, this kind of nonsense does not occur. But we are not in Korea. I keep forgetting this. Silly me.

Instead, we are in Malaysia and in Malaysia as a standard rule, kita cakap tak serupa bikin. Just like ‘con men’. I was just a plain stupid consumer to buy into the telco’s sales pitch, right? Malaysia Boleh. Saya Bodoh.”

I was covering a political gathering last week and had to send the story and pictures using a laptop attached with a USB 3G modem. I was not the only reporter who had difficulty sending pictures.

But I am told this does not happen all the time. The last few days have been quite bad, and on some days it is working quite well.

What’s the best solution to all this?

According to another IT technician friend William Lee, the best is either for the authorities or all the telcos to provide free Wi-Fi services throughout the country by creating the backbone with all the node points across the country.

This will not only be a value-added service or product provided by the telecoms but help boost communication and economic development in the country.

Perhaps instead of concentrating only on building roads, bridges and dams, the authorities in Sarawak should also look at this, if this is not already being done, so that Internet access is available free or for only a small fee, charged indirectly through mobile or telephone line usage or subsidised by the government to provide countrywide internet connectivity. But make sure it has the capacity to handle the voluminous traffic both within the country and to the rest of the world.

The urgency is also to improve significantly the capacity at the international gateways, and increase the speed to match that in Singapore and North Asian countries namely Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea and Japan.

antara sebab kenapa benda ni terjadi adalah kerana talian/ rangkaian perkhidmatan komunikasi kita dimonopoli oleh TM (telekom malaysia) dan anak syarikatnya Celcom dan TM net. kalaulah ada company lain yg membekalkan perkhidmatan komunikasi di malaysia sudah tentu kita juga akan menikmati speed internet yg laju. persaingan akan wujud diantara syarikat ni dan sudah tentu setiap syarikat akan menawarkan produk yg lebih baik..
